Once the center of entertainment in Corinth, the Coliseum Theatre was designed and constructed by Benjamin Franklin Liddon in 1924 with a capacity of 999 seats. When it opened on July 4, 1924, admission was 10 cents to see Vaudeville acts and, later, movies. Autographed photographs of Vaudeville stars still hang in Lobby. The Theatre has a fully equipped stage as well as a movie screen, a central vacuum cleaning systems and a diesel engine to make electricity. It also features antique tile, marble, and beautiful plaster ornamentation. Now owned by the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors, the Coliseum is still a place for entertainment. It can be rented for events varying from gospel singings, theatre productions, and talent shows to beauty contests and awards ceremonies. This National Register of Historical Places location is at the corner of Cruise and Taylor Streets and may be toured by appointment, which can be scheduled through the Corinth Area CVB.
