Shiloh Military History Park
The Park’s HistoryShiloh Military History Park is home to the battlefield of one of our nation’s greatest conflicts. During the Civil War, nearly 110,000 troops met for an epic fight, leaving an unprecedented 23,746 casualties. The loss alone was more than in all of America’s previous wars combined. The park is designed to educate visitors on the history of the conflict, as well as pay homage to those who lost their lives in the fight.
So Much to Learn
While the park offers plenty of information about the Civil War as a whole, it does so in a more attention-grabbing way than a basic textbook. You can visit the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center to enjoy interactive exhibits in a 15,000 square foot facility, which provides details on the Battle of Shiloh, as well as the Battle of Corinth. From an auditorium that seats 75 to a life-size, earthwork-constructed diorama, you’ll be able to explore something new everywhere you look. The center also provides audio and video pieces, including films detailing the epic battles that took place on the very ground you’ve been walking on.
For a more active approach to learning, consider taking a tour. The site offers both self-guided auto tours and walking tours to let you move at your own pace. On these tours, visitors will be able to view the actual battlefield, homes that were used by the Civil War Generals, and Civil War fortifications that are still in place today. Seeing history in person will help you gain a greater appreciation for the efforts of those who stepped foot on the battlefield, as well as help you and your family make lasting memories.
Excitement for the Whole Family
Shiloh Military History Park has even more engaging events throughout the year to help teach history in a fun way. Live history experiences are sure to excite both adults and children alike, as you’ll get to see an interactive depiction of important events. If you have younger visitors along for the trip, you can also consider contacting a park ranger and enroll your child in the Junior Ranger program. This will surely make your experience at Shiloh Military History Park an unforgettable one that they’ll cherish for years.
